Eligibility
Children starting school:
Children become of compulsory school age at the beginning of the term that follows their fifth birthday.
- A child born between 1 Sept 2003 and 31 Aug 2004 can start Reception in the academic year 2008/09.
If your child has his/her 5th birthday between 1 September 2008 and 31 August 2009 you will need to apply for a school place. All applications are considered at the same time for the available school places, but children start at different times according to their birth date:
- Those with birthdays between 1 September and 29 February start at the start of Autumn term.
- Those with birthdays between 1 March and 31 August start at the beginning of the Spring term.
As Bromley’s admissions policy provides for children to start before their fifth birthday, a request to start earlier than the dates set out above would not be agreed.
If you wish your child to start later, this would be considered by the school that has offered your child a place. However, the place must be taken up in the academic year that your child would normally enter Reception.
Children already of school age:
- If your child is already of school age and you require a school place, you need to contact Bromley schools direct as they manage their own admission arrangements.
